A Westbury man was charged with felony assault and driving while intoxicated after his car collided with another vehicle early Sunday on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, causing a passenger in the other vehicle to be ejected, state police said.

Deondre L. Clark, 35, was driving north on the parkway "at an unsafe speed" when he hit a 2015 Honda Pilot shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, police said in a news release.

The injured passenger who was thrown from the Honda was taken to a hospital with serious injuries; the driver of the Honda and two other passengers were not seriously hurt, police said.

Clark was charged with driving while intoxicated, felony assault and reckless driving, according to Brittany Burton, a spokeswoman for the state police. An attorney for Clark could not immediately be reached. He is scheduled for arraignment Monday.

The northbound lanes of the Meadowbrook State Parkway were closed overnight for several hours between the Southern State Parkway and Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow following the crash. The parkway reopened about 8 a.m.
