Southern State Parkway lanes to be closed overnight, DOT says
To allow for bridge maintenance, two eastbound travel lanes on the Southern State Parkway at the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway — that’s Exit 28A in the Town of Hempstead — are to be closed overnight on weekdays, officials said.
That’s starting Wednesday at 10 p.m. into Thursday at 5 a.m., and expected to last for the next three weeks or so, weather permitting, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The ramp from the southbound expressway leading to the eastbound parkway also will be closed in that overnight period, with southbound expressway drivers detoured to Routes 105 and 107, then back to the parkway, the DOT said.
That’s so preventive maintenance can be done on the expressway’s bridge.
Drivers are advised to take alternate routes, such as Sunrise Highway, or to expect delays.
