The flood advisory issued Monday by the National Weather Service for portions of Nassau County was lifted at 1 p.m.

But, forecasters said, Long Islanders can expect rain throughout the day -- and, perhaps, into Tuesday.

The flood advisory, issued early Monday, had been extended until 1 p.m. due to bands of fast-moving thunderstorms that caused delays at LaGuardia Airport and flooded roads in Nassau.

Meteorologist Gary Conte said the narrow storm bands dropped rain at a 1/2-inch to 1-inch per hour rate and said local lighting strikes were reported along the South Shore.

The storm bands moved in from the Atlantic Ocean, from the southeast to the northwest, across Nassau and Queens at a rate of about 30 mph, the weather service said.

In its advisory, updated just after 10:30 a.m., the service warned drivers that "excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of urban areas," among them highways, streets and underpasses -- as well as other poor drainage areas.

Nassau County police said there was flooding on Nassau Boulevard, which runs from Malverne Park Oaks to Garden City Park. Lynbrook police said there was reported flooding along Sunrise Highway at Vincent Avenue and on Forest Avenue at Howard Place.

The Federal Aviation Administration was reporting delays of 1 hour and 15 minutes on arrivals at LaGuardia at noon, delays of more than 1 1/2 hours on arrivals at Newark-Liberty and delays of more than a half-hour at Kennedy. There were no reported delays at Long Island-MacArthur, the FAA said.
