A weather vane that stood atop the Islip LIRR station for more than 30 years, then was removed due to damage, was replaced Monday as a memorial to Bernardino Genchi, the soldier from Islip who made it in high school and later died in Vietnam.

'I would not want to do that on a regular'

The LIRR strike has ended and trains are back in service. Newsday transportation reporter Alfonso A. Castillo explains some of the details of the deal that ended the strike.
