The westbound Long Island Expressway will be closed between Exit 48 at Round Swamp Road and Exit 46 at Sunnyside Boulevard during overnight hours starting Sunday for preventive highway maintenance, the state Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

The road closures, which are within the Town of Oyster Bay, will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and will continue for two weeks, weather permitting, the department said.

A department spokesman said crews would be cleaning and sealing sections of deteriorated asphalt pavement to prevent potholes.

With a section of the LIE closed during these hours, officials said motorists would be detoured onto the north service road.

The Northern State Parkway will also be available as an alternative route.

In October, the LIE was shuttered during overnight hours for one week between Exits 46 and 48, also in Oyster Bay, for "preventative maintenance and asphalt pavement repairs," according to a transportation department spokesman.
