LIRR: Expect normal service out of Long Island City after work train re-railed

The Long Island Rail Road said it expects to run normal service out of Long Island City Tuesday afternoon following a "minor, slow-speed derailment" of a work train west of Hunterspoint Avenue station in the morning.

The derailment did not affect the morning commute into and out of Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal but a handful of trains on the Port Jefferson Branch were canceled, the LIRR said.

Crews re-railed the work train, which had two derailed axles, the LIRR said.

While crews re-railed the train there were service changes involving trains to and from Long Island City and Hunterspoint, the LIRR said.

At least five trains on the Port Jefferson Branch were canceled, the LIRR said.
