A worker was killed when a truck ran over him at a Hicksville trucking business Monday.

Hicksville Fire Department Dispatcher Chris Mercadante said the fatal incident happened at Gabrielli Truck Sales and Service, at 880 S. Oyster Bay Rd. in Hicksville, around 3 p.m.

“There was a worker there and the truck backed over him and killed him," Mercadante said. “He apparently was working on the truck or something and it ran over him."

He said he didn’t know the identify of the deceased or further details. Police confirmed the account on Tuesday, saying that the truck rolled over the victim and that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A call to Gabrielli Truck Sales and Service was not immediately returned.

A spokeswoman for the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the agency has initiated an investigation.
