Two fires overnight in Nassau County heavily damaged homes in Valley Stream and Plainview, displacing six people, authorities said.

The first was in Valley Stream, where firefighters responded to a call on West Euclid Street at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday and found heavy fire blasting out the second floor of a two-story Colonial. The occupants were able to evacuate uninjured, said Nassau Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Andrew Schmitt Jr.

About 100 firefighters from Valley Stream, Elmont, Malverne, Lynbrook, Hewlett, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Franklin Square and Woodmere brought the fire under control in 80 minutes, Schmitt said in a news release.

No other injuries reported.

Four adults were displaced from the home, which was deemed uninhabitable; the Red Cross was assisting with housing, Schmitt said.

Less than three hours later, Plainview firefighters responded at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday to a fire in a single-story ranch on Central Park Road, where they found a fire in a bedroom, Schmitt said.

The occupants got out on their own, and the fire was brought under control within 40 minutes.

About 75 firefighters from Plainview Bethpage, Jericho, Hicksville, Syosset and Farmingdale responded to the call.

Two elderly occupants were evaluated for smoke inhalation; no other injuries were reported, Schmitt said.

The Plainview home was no longer habitable, displacing the two residents.

Both fires are under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Nassau police Arson/Bomb Squad.
