Updates on status of LI's state parks
The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation on Friday updated the status of Long Island's state parks, as the region continues to recover from superstorm Sandy.
Parks that are open:
Bayard Cutting Arboretum, Belmont State Park, Brentwood State Park, Montauk Downs, Montauk Point State Park, Camp Hero, Hither Hills, Hither Woods, Shadmoor, Amsterdam Beach, Nissequogue, Walt Whitman and Valley Stream
Parks that are partially open:
Caleb Smith - Trails remain closed.
Captree State Park - Still closed are concession building and bait and tackle shop; launch areas are limited; main dock is open, but no access to fishing/overlook piers.
Caumsett - Equestrian Center open, trails and fishing access road closed.
Connetquot - Most trails closed, but open are education program in main building, Grist Mill area, main walking trail to hatchery.
Heckscher - Access park at main entrance toll plaza only, all trails closed.
Jones Beach - Open are Field 2 and West End II, where portable toilets are available; facility building in Field 2 closed.
Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park - Closed are all walking trails and east wing of Camellia House.
