Cops: Valley Stream man threatened to kill Florida police sergeant

A Valley Stream man is facing a misdemeanor harassment charge after messaging a Florida TV news station with a threat to kill a West Palm Beach police sergeant, authorities said Wednesday night.
Robert Shemanski, 38, of Wood Lane, who was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, is accused of sending the threatening message through Facebook on Tuesday to WESH 2 News after calling and harassing the West Palm Beach Police Department for about two years, Nassau police said.
The threat sent via the television station caused the West Palm Beach sergeant to fear for his safety and that of his family, authorities said.
“The victim states the defendant has called hundreds if not thousands of times in the past two years and made hundreds of posts on his social media accounts, Facebook and Twitter, threatening and slandering him,” according to the charging statement.
At his arraignment, bail was set at $5,000, and Shemanski was conditionally released to probation, pending a mental health evaluation, authorities said.
The police had no information immediately available on what motivated the defendant.
The defendant is represented by the Legal Aid Society, which had no immediate comment.
