Two occupants of a Wantagh home suffered minor injuries in a late-night fire Tuesday, officials said.

Firefighters extinguishing the blaze on Dell Lane confronted another hazard in addition to flames and smoke — a live electrical wire, officials said.

The wire, at the back of the house, hindered firefighters, who immediately called on PSEG Long Island to cut the power, the Wantagh Fire Department said in a statement.

When firefighters arrived after the fire broke out about 11:10 p.m. they found all occupants were out, officials said.

Two of the occupants reported feeling ill and were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, officials said.

A firefighter — one of some 100 firefighters and medics who were called out — injured his knee after tripping over equipment on the front lawn but declined treatment, the statement said. The firefighter said he did not need medical treatment.

The fire was put out by 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and fire investigators were determining where it began and what caused it, the statement said.
