Long Island to be sunny and mostly dry for Labor Day weekend

Labor Day weekend will be largely dry and comfortable on Long Island, according to National Weather Service meteorologist John Cristantello.

Saturday’s temperatures will reach the high 70s for most of the Island, with temperatures in the mid-70s on the East End, Cristantello said. It will be mostly sunny with less humidity than Friday.

There is a chance for mild bouts of rain later Saturday, however, he said.

"Most of the Island right now is probably sunny, but we do think some clouds are going to be rolling in later this afternoon," he told Newsday on Saturday morning. "Overall, there’s probably a 30-40% chance for showers after about 2 or 3 this afternoon."

The forecast calls for dry and mostly sunny conditions on Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures will drop slightly into the low-to-mid 70s on Sunday, Cristantello said. The humidity will also continue to drop on Sunday, so the "feels like" temperature should be on par with the actual temperature.

Monday’s temperature will rise into the upper 70s and low 80s on the Island.

The humidity is expected to continue to drop on Monday, making it feel more like the start of autumn, according to Cristantello.

"It will be like, OK, now we’re getting close to fall," Cristantello said about Monday's forecast.
