Scattered showers may roll through the region Sunday morning, but Mother’s Day won’t be a complete washout.

Sunday will start out mostly cloudy and cool, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance for light showers before 3 p.m., according to National Weather Service meteorologist John Cristanello.

“Most spots across the island are going to see a chance of rainfall,” Cristanello said.

Conditions will vary across Long Island.

Nassau and areas of western Suffolk could see a 40% to 50% chance of rain, while areas on the East End have just a 20% chance.

The system will move out of the area by the afternoon and some sunshine could poke through the clouds.

“Maybe not sparkling clear out, but at least partly sunny by the end of the day,” Cristanello said.

Temperatures will be cooler than normal, with a high in the mid-50s. The low will drop to near 45 degrees Sunday night.

Warmer, more seasonable temperatures will return for the start of the workweek Monday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 63 degrees in the forecast.

“The big take home is Monday should be a better day overall,” Cristanello said.

Tuesday’s forecast brings another threat of afternoon rain and temperatures near 70 degrees, the weather service said.
