Sunday's blue skies and warm temperatures, which will be with us through much of this week, had Long Island weather watchers logging new highs in their books.

John Murray, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Islip reached a high of 75, beating the previous April 4 record of 66 set in 1997. Islip records go back to 1986.

In Bridgehampton, weather watcher Richard Hendrickson, who has recorded data since 1930, reported a high of 72. That easily tops the previous high of 63 Hendrickson recorded in 1997.

The rest of the week will continue to feel more like mid-May than early April, Murray said.

Monday, temperatures will dip a bit on the coast, though the sun will shine and highs will still reach the mid- to upper 60s. More of the same is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday looks to be the warmest day this week, with highs in the mid-70s, Murray said.

A 30 percent chance of rain arrives Thursday afternoon or evening, he said, and highs will be in the upper 50s to 60 on Friday and Saturday.
