Editorial: 80 melodic years of NYSSMA

80 -- That's how many years the nonprofit New York State School Music Association has been celebrating student performers. About 2.2 million students in grades K-12 participate each year in voice and instrument lessons. NYSSMA, created during the Depression, trains teachers to judge students and develops music programs. But it's best known for its assessment system, which showcases talented performers for county and state ensembles.
A few trumpet rolls, please. And, of course, let's hear from that tuba player, too.
