That's how many more soccer clubs you'll find in Italy, the defending World Cup champion, than in the United States - even though, according to FIFA, both countries have about the same proportion of their population (8 percent) playing soccer, and the United States has 240 million more people. But soccer is slowly gaining popularity in our country - partly due to an increasing number of schools mandating soccer as a gym-class activity.
