That's how many years the public has entered the U.S. Supreme Court building by climbing 44 marble stairs and stepping through giant bronze doors beneath the words "Equal Justice Under Law." No more. Visitors to the iconic Cass Gilbert building must now go in through ground-level doors on either side of the grand front steps (although they can still exit via the front doors). Security is the reason for the change - a lamentable, if understandable, sign of the times.
