That's the increase over the past five years in the number of federal workers whose annual pay exceeds $150,000, according to an analysis by USA Today. Since 2000, federal pay and benefits increases have exceeded inflation by 3 percent a year, compared to 0.8 percent for private workers.

Studies show federal compensation packages are now double those for similar private-sector jobs.
