With the Supreme Court expected to hand down a decision on the Affordable Health Care Act next week, media outlets have asked the court to provide live audio and video of the proceedings. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), its ranking minority-party member, also want the live feeds.

This almost certainly isn't going to happen, though it certainly should. At the very least, the court needs to release the audio recording as soon as the justices are done delivering the decision, as it did after oral arguments on the case in March. Much would be gained by letting the public see and hear the proceedings, and little lost. This is America's court, and it should be accessible to the eyes and ears of the hundreds of millions who won't have a seat in the room.
