Finally, an emergency room in Long Beach

At 9 a.m. Monday, Long Beach will have an emergency room for the first time since Sandy struck 33 months ago. The facility is a bit off the beaten path, but new signs direct those who need care.
South Nassau Communities Hospital took over the site after the demise of Long Beach Medical Center and spent about $24 million to buy the property and build both an urgent care center and the emergency room, all while navigating state and federal red tape. The Federal Emergency Management Agency gave South Nassau $150 million to provide care in Long Beach and nearby communities, and this facility for the barrier island was a crucial part of that goal.
The busy summer season is in full swing, and it's good that medical professionals will be in Long Beach 24/7 to treat anyone who needs help.
