Long Island needs cleaner air

27 -- That's how many smog days Suffolk County had in 2011-13, more than any county in the state. Nassau, which has no ozone monitor, is surely similar: Long Island is downwind of the coal-burning plants, for example, of much of the rest of the United States.
And here's more evidence we need to keep working for cleaner air: Another new study found that drastic measures to reduce air pollution in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics led to newborns weighing more than those delivered one year earlier or later.
