Carnage continues in our schools

There’s much we don’t know about Tuesday’s terrifying tragedy at a Texas elementary school. What we do know is enough. At least 19 schoolchildren and two teachers are reported dead. More innocent lives lost in what should be a safe place, like the Buffalo grocery store recently wracked by carnage. The nation grieves with these families. As the slaughter in our schools continues, we sadly add to the heartbreaking list we began after the 2018 tragedy in Parkland, Florida:
Jonesboro, AR, 3/24/98 — 5 killed, 11 wounded at Westside Middle School.
Littleton, CO, 4/20/99 — 13 killed, more than 20 wounded at Columbine High School.
Santee, CA, 3/5/01 — 2 killed, 13 wounded at Santana High School.
Grundy, VA, 1/16/02 — 3 killed, 3 wounded at Appalachian School of Law.
Tucson, AZ, 10/29/02 — 3 killed at the University of Arizona School of Nursing.
Cold Spring, MN, 9/24/03 — 2 killed at Rocori High School.
Red Lake, MN, 3/21/05 — 7 killed, 7 wounded at Red Lake Senior High School.
Nickel Mines, PA, 10/2/06 — 5 killed, 5 wounded in West Nickel Mines School.
Blacksburg, VA, 4/16/07 — 32 killed, 17 wounded at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
Baton Rouge, LA, 2/8/08 — 2 killed at Louisiana Technical College.
DeKalb, IL, 2/14/08 — 5 killed, 16 wounded at Northern Illinois University.
Chardon, OH, 2/27/12 — 3 killed, 3 wounded at Chardon High School.
Oakland, CA, 4/2/12 — 7 killed, 3 wounded at Oikos University.
Newtown, CT, 12/14/12 — 26 killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Santa Monica, CA, 6/7/13 — 3 killed at Santa Monica College.
Marysville, WA, 10/24/14 — 4 killed, 1 wounded at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
Roseburg, OR, 10/1/15 — 9 killed, 7 wounded at Umpqua Community College.
