That's the percentage of U.S. adults who are obese, says a new federal report. And it's dismaying, because it follows years of anti-obesity campaigns, healthier fast-food chain menus and reduced soda consumption.
Experts thought the long rise in obesity had leveled off, the rate was 32 percent a decade ago. Also alarming: after years of gender equity, rates now skew higher among women, especially black women, 57 percent of whom are obese. It's a serious public health problem with no clear cure in sight.
