Who we're endorsing: For Congress - District 1

The race for New York's 1st Congressional District is more competitive than ever, with an open race beween Bridget M. Fleming and Nicholas J. LaLota in a redrawn district that now includes the entirety of Suffolk County's north shore.

Both candidates have long track records of service to their communities and the public. LaLota, a Navy veteran, is a former Suffolk Republican elections commissioner and Amityville village trustee; Fleming, a former prosecutor, has served on the Southampton Town Council and the county legislature. 

The editorial board hopes these endorsements bring insights into the candidates and issues in the recently redrawn congressional districts. Each endorsement includes maps with new district lines overlaid on old ones to help orient voters. Not sure of your district? Find out here.
