For many Long Islanders, towns are the most granular level of government that they experience. Towns play a major role in housing development, road safety, collecting the trash and keeping parks in pristine conditions. The effectiveness and responsiveness of the town supervisor matters.

In North Hempstead, incumbent Jennifer S. DeSena, running on the Republican line, is being challenged by Democrat Dave Kerpen.

In Smithtown, Republican incumbent Edward R. Wehrheim is running for a third term. Democrat Rosemary Griffin will appear on the ballot, but she has ended her campaign.
