The 3rd District includes Bellerose, Bellerose Terrace, Elmont, North Valley Stream, Malverne and Lakeview and parts of Franklin Square and West Hempstead.
Incumbent Democrat Carrié Solages, 46, of Valley Stream, who is seeking his seventh term, is well known and connected to constituents in this most diverse of districts. But the lawyer has few accomplishments to show from his long tenure.
His opponent, Kadeem M. Brown, 34, of Elmont, is a financial adviser who sits on the board of the Southeast Queens Merchants Association, making his first run for elected office. Brown is not enrolled with any party and is running on the Republican line. Neither Brown nor Solages met with the editorial board.
