The 6th District covers northeastern Brookhaven Town from Mount Sinai east and south to Yaphank.

Seeking a second term, Chad H. Lennon, 45, of Rocky Point, shows a good feel for the everyday problems in his district and works to chip away at them.

He’s committed to clarifying relevant rules for the public and tracking where legislative changes may be needed on e-bikes and traffic. Lennon rightly disdains the cliché “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” when used as an excuse to avoid refining policies and programs.

The Conservative on the Republican line as well doesn’t balk at discussing and helping to confront darker problems. These include proposing to crack down on hotels and motels that accommodate sex traffickers and alleviating the persistent scourge of veteran suicide, as Lennon recently organized a 66-mile hike from Orient Point to Hauppauge to honor those lost and bring awareness to the problem. He’s also pushing for commercial fish processing on Long Island, and seeks to prod federal action to defend against coastal erosion.

Lennon’s Democratic opponent Kevin B. O’Shaughnessy is not actively campaigning.

Newsday Opinion endorses Lennon.

Note: Lennon's party affiliation was incorrectly identified previously.
