The 7th District covers southwestern Brookhaven Town, including Gordon Heights and parts of Medford and Coram.
Sometimes small pieces of legislation make the biggest difference.
For Dominick S. Thorne that became clear upon meeting a man whose life was saved after a bee sting days after EpiPens were placed in Suffolk police cars — a result of the Patchogue Republican’s legislation.
“There is nothing better than to stand next to a guy who’s alive because you wrote a law,” said Thorne, 58. “That’s something I’ll take with me forever.”
Thorne, a former EMS responder, spotlights first responder concerns and still joins emergency calls to assess their needs. He’s also attuned to his district’s challenges, from drainage in Blue Point to traffic in Patchogue to redevelopment in Gordon Heights. Thorne seems to knows his district’s every street, park and need — and has the drive necessary to address as many as he can.
Democrat Jawaan M. Sween is not actively campaigning.
