The 15th District covers the western part of Babylon Town from Melville to Amityville Village and east to Wyandanch and parts of West Babylon.

Jason A. Richberg, 42, of West Babylon, who is seeking a fourth term, has led the Democratic caucus since 2022.

With his party controlling only six of the chamber's 18 seats, Richberg knows a lot about navigating the system to get results. His district has a full array of traffic and road safety challenges. Stop signs and rumble strips, he says, are partial solutions, but adds that aggressive driving "is a community behavior issue."

Looking ahead, Richberg said Brookhaven National Laboratory and other projects can be partners in reviving Long Island as a center for science and engineering.

This is the second legislative race for Republican Jarod B. Morris, 27, who lost four years ago. Morris, a former president of the Wyandanch school board, broadly stresses affordability issues, wants to ensure developers pay their fair share of taxes, and says he'd represent "the uniqueness of the district."

Newsday Opinion endorses Richberg.
