Letter: A riddle in our defense of life

A piping plover guards its nest outside an "exclosure" on the outer beach at Smith Point Park, which has been closed to fishermen and campers due in part to damage from Superstorm Sandy and the proximity to piping plovers' nesting grounds. (June 19, 2013) Credit: Joseph D. Sullivan
It’s quite perplexing that the piping plover in its nest is so protected as an endangered and fragile species under the 1986 Endangered Species Act, yet the unborn child in the mother’s womb, who is also endangered and fragile, has no such safeguard.
What an injustice, to put it mildly.
