A $3.5M campaign for a senator’s pay?

One has to wonder at the incentive to spend $3.5 million, as new State Sen. Todd Kaminsky did, to run for a job that pays $79,500 [“Party politic$,” News, May 22].
Is the incentive influence, power or future job opportunities after leaving office?
