Musings: AI threatens old job paths

After 50 years in the staffing sector, I have noticed a shift away from a pattern that has existed since the 1970s. Students who once majored in computer science, accounting, or engineering were assured of employment soon after graduation. Unfortunately, due to AI, these college majors have far less of a guarantee in today’s job market. Add some coding jobs to that list, as AI has shifted the focus from a good part of that arena, too.
Career counselors, parents, and college admissions offices should be having this conversation now, not after the tuition bills come due.
