Shadow hangs over our joyous moments

I thank Randi Marshall for speaking honestly about a fear many of us carry quietly [“It’s getting harder to gather as Jews,” Opinion, March 19]. A growing unease now shadows moments that should bring peace, joy, and community.

As an active member of my temple in Wantagh, I see how misunderstood the rise in antisemitism is. This is not abstract — it shapes whether we feel safe gathering for Shabbat, celebrating holidays openly, or sending our children to religious school without fear.

Simply coming together as Jews now requires heightened security, difficult conversations with our children, and constant vigilance. That reality is exhausting and isolating. Speaking openly about this fear matters, especially to help others understand what Jewish families are navigating every day, often in silence.

Ideas to help fix the too-many-deer woes

The deer problem on Long Island can be easily fixed [“Road strikes with deer hit record on LI,” News, March 20].

Allow hunters to use bait, as federal and professional “sharpshooters” have been allowed to use in the past. Extend the hunting season for a month or two and have more deer meat drop-off boxes for food pantries.

Also, make it easier for hunters to obtain nuisance permits.

If you want to decrease the population, these are some answers. Even if these recommendations are only temporary solutions, why not try them?

Is the East End just a rich cul-de-sac?

What geographical identity does the East End have other than a Long Island dead end? A reader apparently wants it to continue as a cul-de-sac for rich people [“Bridge ideas threaten Long Island’s identity,” Musings, March 9]. Not to worry, though: This Long Island Sound bridge concept will be studied to death.

I would suggest that anyone who finds fault with the bridge idea try to drive from anywhere on Long Island to anywhere past Yonkers at almost any time of day.
