Musings: What a shock to see LIRR act

I have been a Baldwin resident for almost 50 years and have taken the Long Island Rail Road innumerable times. Also, my office is directly across from the Baldwin station, and I have parked under the trestle many times.
For decades, I have noticed that the areas under the trestle are poorly lit, making them unsafe and uninviting. That, of course, is especially true after dark.
Recently, I reached out to the LIRR to see if something can be done about this dim situation, and — much to my pleasant surprise — an LIRR employee quickly got back to me.
Within weeks, LED lights were installed under the trestle from Milburn Avenue to Grand Avenue. What an improvement!
I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but this success story may inspire my fellow Long Islanders to take action to try to improve our communities. I learned that, at least in this case, one person indeed can make a difference.
