Some cashiers don’t help bag groceries

Ever since Suffolk County required stores to charge 5 cents for every plastic bag for groceries, I’ve experienced longer lines at local stores such as Stop & Shop, Walmart and Best Market because customers are using their own bags [“Buy a folding bag for your purse or pocket,” Letters, Feb. 8].
When customers bring reusable bags, some cashiers no longer help bag the groceries. If this is no longer the cashiers’ responsibility, maybe they should get a pay cut, and the stores can pass the savings on to customers.
