Letter: Don't play politics choosing judges

I read with great surprise your article about the Huntington Republican Party chairwoman who complained that her deal with the Conservative chairman over filling three judgeships had gone bad ["GOP withholds nomination," News, June 10].
I couldn't help but wonder if we have reached a new low. I recall when the GOP convened meetings and its members, elected by their neighbors, had robust debate and questioned the potential candidates' credentials as they scoured their resumes.
As a lawyer, I believe that to preserve the rule of law in a democratic society, parties should strive to keep the judicial selection process in the hands of the people and above political games.
