The vast majority of Long Island Power Authority ratepayers will suffer, as will the Long Island economy, environment and public health, if the Port Jefferson power plant is repowered or a new plant built there [“Power surge,” News, June 24].
It’s clear this proposal is being pushed, politically, to subsidize Port Jefferson’s taxpayers — particularly its school district — at the expense of the rest of LIPA’s ratepayers and state taxpayers.
LIPA must do a cost-benefit analysis, comparing repowering with investing in energy efficiency. Let’s find out which provides more “green” jobs and better protects our environment and public health.
