Trump, Musk air public family feud
Elon Musk, with his cavalier slash-and-burn approach to better government, revealed his true character and total lack of compassion for the human condition. With his words and deeds, he ruined countless lives, subjected millions to starvation, sickness, and death, so that those who have should have more.
And now, because of their disagreement over the “big, beautiful” bill, President Donald Trump and Musk have turned on each other as we get to watch their own war play out on X in a government version of a family feud [“Musk derides Trump bill,” News, June 4]. Trump and Musk deserve each other, but America deserves better.
Electric cars and rocket ships can never remove the stain Musk leaves behind of lives ruined and lives lost. None of this had to be, but Musk thought it did. He will now just move on to his next challenge while others just try to survive. He shouldn't look back -- he may not like what he sees.
But what he’s now seeing is that his words carry more consequences not only for the country but for himself and his businesses.

Not voting on grid manager is stunning
It is deeply troubling that three Long Island Power Authority trustees failed to cast votes after a year-long process to choose a new grid manager, with two abstaining and one choosing to be recused ["LIPA defends decision," News, May 29]. In a decision of such critical importance, this failure is not only disappointing, it is inexcusable.
Their refusal to vote directly enabled the extension of PSEG’s contract for another 10 years, despite the company’s well-documented shortcomings: failure to meet performance metrics, unreliable outage maps, and delayed, often inaccurate communications with customers. Here in West Hills and across Long Island, residents are often left in the dark — literally and figuratively — due to PSEG’s persistent failures.
At a moment when leadership and accountability were urgently needed, these three trustees chose avoidance over action. This is not governance — it is a betrayal of public trust. Their dereliction of duty has real consequences for Long Islanders, who deserve reliable service and responsible oversight.
They must be held accountable. Our communities deserve representatives who will act — not disappear — when it matters most.

Musk leaves behind a trail of tears
Elon Musk, with his cavalier slash-and-burn approach to better government with the Department of Government Efficiency, revealed his true character and total lack of compassion for the human condition ["Trump praises departing Musk," Nation & World, May 31]. With his words and deeds, he ruined countless lives, possibly subjected millions to starvation, sickness, and death, so that those who have should have more.
Electric cars and rocket ships can never remove the stain he leaves behind of lives ruined and lives lost. None of this had to be, but Musk thought it did. He will now just move on to his next challenge while others just try to survive. He shouldn't look back -- he may not like what he sees.
