So often we read that young adults make bad decisions, are spoiled and have no work ethic.

I recently witnessed incredible hard work and selflessness from a group of Sachem North High School students. The gesture restored my faith in our youth and their ability to think about people other than themselves.

Calling themselves the Dirty Dozen, and with help from the school’s student government, these students collected food for more than 1,800 families this holiday season.

They gathered food, packaged and delivered it to the school — even while fitting in classes, team practices, homework and studying for tests. One of them was my child.
