Just Sayin’: Don’t forget to say thank you

As a grandmother of six and great-grandmother of four, I would like to express a word during this gift-giving season to grandchildren, nieces and nephews, adult and young alike.
Grandparents, aunts and uncles are under no obligation to send gifts. We do it out of love. If we give a gift, it would be nice to receive a thank-you note, phone call or email. (Not everyone texts.)

This shopper had the Christmas spirit
On the checkout line at BJ’s Wholesale Club in Levittown, I could not find my credit card. I turned to the gentleman behind me and told him to go past me while I looked for it. He had a large order.
“Let’s get on the other line,” he said, noting that it was empty.
“You go, I am looking for my credit card,” I said.
“It’s Christmas, come on the line and merry Christmas!” he said, offering to pay my bill of close to $40.
“Are you kidding?” I said, telling him I couldn’t let him pay.
He insisted. We went back and forth while the clerk looked on. Meantime, he had the girl ring up my order. Then, I found my credit card deep in my wallet.
I wanted her to give him his money and I would pay with my credit card. He just said, “Merry Christmas. Pay it forward.”
I cannot put into words how touched I was by the generosity, kindness, lovely smile of this perfect stranger. It was a real holiday story.
