More seniors on Long Island are finding their small incomes exceed entry requirements for the Senior Low Income Property Tax Exemption, because the threshold income hasn’t been raised in nearly nine years. The threshold should take inflation into account.
My inquiries to local legislators produced responses such as, “Albany has enough difficulty finding funds for other needs.”
Newsday reports an Albany budget surplus this year. Town and state representatives need to be made aware of this neglect of seniors. And where is AARP for this senior advocacy in New York?
