I had a very pleasant experience this past Veteran’s Day. I am a veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post No. 7223. As usual, our post honored past and current members of the Armed Forces with a ceremony at the memorial monument in Amityville.
After at a brief gathering at the village’s Historical Society building, my wife and I decided to take advantage of the free breakfast for veterans offered by the International House of Pancakes in Massapequa.
After breakfast, my wife and I approached the cashier to pay my wife’s portion of our bill. To my surprise, my money was returned. The cashier said the two young men ahead of me had paid for my wife’s meal.
These young men looked to be just younger than 21. What a wonderful gesture. It certainly persuaded me to never underestimate the youth of this generation.
