I was amazed that Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) would encourage former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to run for president, saying how qualified he is [“King praises Bloomberg,” News, Feb. 10]. I agree that Bloomberg is qualified by his intelligence, business acumen and world knowledge.

My problem — call it the chutzpah problem — is that King gives a false reason for promoting Bloomberg. If he actually ran, there would be about a 75 percent chance that the Democrats would lose, because the liberal vote would be divided. Bloomberg’s run would help elect some right-winger such as Donald Trump.
