I was disappointed that the ransacking of a North Miami Beach Walgreens by students who walked out of their high school in protest of Trayvon Martin's fatal shooting was not covered in Newsday ["Calls for justice remain," News, April 1]. What does breaking displays and merchandise have to do with this case?

Why don't we all buy guns and have a good old-fashioned shootout like in the old West? I thought we had moved far beyond that. A person is still innocent until proven guilty in this country. Was this just an excuse to have a free shopping spree?

I thought we had moved way beyond the rioting and racial wars that I witnessed in the '60s. White America voted in a black president, but it seems since then, we have gone back 40 years.
