I applaud Newsday for reporting the fact that 16 state lawmakers have continued serving in office and receiving their salaries while also receiving their "retirement" pensions ["Salaries & pensions," News, March 25].

I call to my fellow Long Islanders' attention the fact that the party affiliation of these 16 legislators is close to evenly split -- an indication of the widespread arrogance of the Albany governing class in these tough economic times.
