Letter: Alda's passion for fun science

Stony Brook University's Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science will serve as a witty and wise antidote to the irrational religiosity, wanton terrorism and ideological zealotry that mar the 21st century ["Alan Alda, star on a scientific mission," Opinion, May 1]. And it promises to be a lot of fun, too.
As an educator-cum-public speaker, I am the son of a chemist who introduced me to the periodic table by reading from "Chimica in Versi" ("Chemistry in Verse"), a rendition of the chemical elements set to poetry in Italian. I share Alda's passion for promoting science in all its wondrous and whimsical ways.
