When companies’ costs increase, they raise prices to their customers [“Port Jefferson district joins LIPA tax suit,” News, Nov. 26]. When the higher price is for a necessity like electricity, it’s poor people who are hurt more by paying out a higher percentage of their incomes.

In this case, the school districts that allegedly overtax the Long Island Power Authority get to spread their costs to all Long Island electricity consumers. And Northport and Port Jefferson homeowners get the opportunity to increase their school district spending on our backs.
