With pride, I read the article "Liberation remembered," about the Mauthausen concentration camp survivors [News, April 10]. Mauthausen was liberated by the 11th Armored Division, my father's outfit. I have letters written by him to my mother describing what he saw in the camp and how grateful the survivors were to see American uniforms. Some Americans get very callous and indifferent about the past, yet some events must be remembered. They remind us of the greatness we can achieve and warn us of the things we cannot let happen again. The Holocaust survivors and their American liberators deserve our respect and remembrance.
