I read Lane Filler's column "Service should count for something" [Opinion, May 21]. I agree that children who entered our country illegally but when of age joined the armed services and served honorably, should be granted permanent status and a path to citizenship.

Those who put their lives in harm's way to defend our nation are entitled not only to our thanks but also to be called Americans.
