Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano made a bold proposal to have the county's assessments taken over by the towns and cities ["Towns, cities cool to assessment shift," News, Nov. 14]. He is right, and it should be done sooner rather than later.

The towns are equipped to handle the assessments of the properties. While we are at it, maybe the towns can crack down on illegal homes, do more code enforcement and change their antiquated zoning laws.

Who are we kidding? Will any good idea ever come to fruition in this county?
